About this witch hat cookie cutter

Witch hat cookie cutter outline: a tall pointed hat with the tip bent over to the right, above a wide oval brim
Witch Hat cookie cutter outline – the cookie comes out in this shape.

This witch hat has a tall pointed crown with its tip bent over to the right and a wide oval brim. At the default 95 mm the brim is 95 mm wide and about 24 mm deep, the crown is about 46 mm wide where it meets the brim, and the whole hat is about 89 mm tall.

The bent tip is the narrowest part, but it is still well over the thickness a cookie needs, so it bakes without burning or breaking off. The flat brim makes the hat easy to decorate with a band right where the crown meets it – the classic place for a buckle, a ribbon or a name.

Witch hats are a quick way to add variety to a Halloween plate, and they are a good canvas for piping skills: stripes, stars, moons and spiderwebs all fit on the crown. Turn a hat upside down and it even works as a party-hat cookie for a witch-themed birthday.

Size guide

The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the witch hat cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.

Dough and baking tips

Use chocolate dough for a black hat, or a vanilla dough if you plan to flood it in purple, green or black icing. Roll to 5–6 mm and chill the cut hats before baking so the bent tip keeps its curve. The brim bakes faster than the crown; if your oven runs hot, turn the tray halfway through baking.

Decorating ideas

  • Flood the hat in black or deep purple, then pipe a band across the bottom of the crown in orange, green or purple.
  • Add a yellow or gold square buckle on the band and a few gold stars or a crescent moon on the crown.
  • Write a guest’s name on the brim in white icing for a place card, or pipe a little spiderweb on the crown.

Printing this cutter

  • Material: PLA or PETG, ideally a filament sold as suitable for food contact
  • Settings: 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 walls, no supports – the STL is already rim-down
  • Blade: 1.0 mm thick and 15 mm tall by default; use 1.2 mm above 120 mm
  • Print time: roughly 25–40 minutes at the default size
Food safety: 3D printed cutters have small gaps between layers that can trap dough. Use them for short contact with chilled dough, wash by hand in warm (not hot) soapy water, dry them straight away and keep PLA out of the dishwasher. Replace a cutter once it is scratched or stained.
