About this jack-o’-lantern cookie cutter
This jack-o’-lantern cuts the outline and the face in one press. At the default 95 mm the cookie is 95 mm wide and about 92 mm tall. Each triangle eye is about 15 mm wide and 13 mm tall, the nose is about 12 mm wide, and the grin is about 51 mm across with two pointed teeth hanging down from the top lip.
The four face cutters are printed in the same part as the outline and held rigidly by a 4 mm thick web on the grip side: a collar round each face blade and 8 mm wide bars running to the outer wall and between the eyes, nose and grin. The web sits 11 mm above the cutting edge, so it never touches the dough, and the top of every face cutter stays open. On this page the generator turns on “Also cut inner holes” automatically; if you open the jack-o’-lantern shape from the generator yourself, tick that box to keep the face.
Cut-out faces make the best stained-glass cookies: fill the holes with crushed boiled sweets and they melt into glowing orange or yellow windows. Below about 75 mm the eyes and nose get small enough that dough tends to stick inside them, so for mini cookies use the plain Pumpkin template and pipe the face instead.
Size guide
The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the jack-o’-lantern cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.
| Size setting | Cookie (width × height) | Blade | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 mm | 60 × 58 mm | 1.0 mm | Bite-size cookies, cupcake and drink toppers |
| 95 mm | 95 × 92 mm | 1.0 mm | Default – a standard cookie, fits most gift boxes |
| 120 mm | 120 × 116 mm | 1.0 mm | Large gift cookies and centrepieces |
Dough and baking tips
Use a firm, low-spread dough such as a no-rise sugar cookie or shortbread, rolled to 5 mm and well chilled – soft dough closes up the small face holes in the oven. Dust the cutter in flour before each press and push the face pieces out through the open tops of the face cutters with a fingertip or the blunt end of a chopstick. For stained-glass cookies, bake for half the time, fill the holes with crushed yellow or orange boiled sweets and finish baking; let them cool fully on the tray.
Decorating ideas
- Flood the pumpkin in orange around the face holes and the stem in green or brown – the cut-out face needs no extra icing.
- Sandwich two baked cookies with jam or chocolate spread: the filling glows through the eyes and the grin.
- Pipe darker orange lobe lines from the stem down to the bottom edge, going around the face rather than through it.
Printing this cutter
- Material: PLA or PETG, ideally a filament sold as suitable for food contact
- Settings: 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 walls, no supports – the STL is already rim-down
- Blade: 1.0 mm thick and 15 mm tall by default; use 1.2 mm above 120 mm
- Print time: roughly 25–40 minutes at the default size
