About this pumpkin cookie cutter

Pumpkin cookie cutter outline: a wide five-lobed pumpkin with a curved stem and a long leaf on top
Pumpkin cookie cutter outline – the cookie comes out in this shape.

This is the classic autumn pumpkin: five rounded lobes across a wide body, a short curved stem and a long leaf that sweeps off to the right. At the default 90 mm the cookie is 90 mm wide and about 87 mm tall. The stem is about 9 mm wide at the base and the leaf is about 35 mm long, so both stay strong enough to lift off the tray.

Because the face is left blank, the same cutter works for a whole range of cookies: a smiling jack-o’-lantern piped in icing, a plain orange harvest pumpkin, a name cookie for a party place setting or a “boo” message. If you want the face cut right through the dough instead, use the Jack-o’-Lantern template, which has eyes, a nose and a grin built in.

The lobes give the outline a soft, wavy bottom edge with no sharp points, so the shape cuts cleanly even in sticky dough. It still reads clearly as a pumpkin at 50 mm for bite-size cookies, and at 120 mm it makes a big cookie that has room for a full painted face.

Size guide

The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the pumpkin cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.

Dough and baking tips

Spiced dough suits this shape: add pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg to a sugar cookie or shortbread recipe. Roll to 5–6 mm and chill the cut cookies for 10 minutes so the stem and leaf keep their shape. Bake until the edges just begin to colour – pumpkins look best when they are still pale enough to show orange icing.

Decorating ideas

  • Flood the body in orange, let it crust over, then pipe darker orange curves from the stem down to the bottom to mark the lobes.
  • Flood the stem in brown and the leaf in green, and add a thin curly tendril next to the stem with a fine piping tip.
  • Pipe a jack-o’-lantern face in black royal icing, or write a guest’s name for a party place card.

Printing this cutter

  • Material: PLA or PETG, ideally a filament sold as suitable for food contact
  • Settings: 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 walls, no supports – the STL is already rim-down
  • Blade: 1.0 mm thick and 15 mm tall by default; use 1.2 mm above 120 mm
  • Print time: roughly 25–40 minutes at the default size
Food safety: 3D printed cutters have small gaps between layers that can trap dough. Use them for short contact with chilled dough, wash by hand in warm (not hot) soapy water, dry them straight away and keep PLA out of the dishwasher. Replace a cutter once it is scratched or stained.
