About this gingerbread house cookie cutter

Gingerbread house cookie cutter outline: a house with a steep pitched roof, overhanging eaves and a chimney on the right
Gingerbread House cookie cutter outline – the cookie comes out in this shape.

A full gingerbread house takes a weekend; a gingerbread house cookie takes an afternoon. This flat cutter gives you the whole house in one outline: a steep pitched roof with eaves that overhang the walls, a straight-sided house and a chimney on the right-hand slope. At the default 90 mm the cookie is 90 mm tall and about 85 mm wide; the walls are about 65 mm wide and the chimney about 12 mm.

Because it is one flat cookie, there is no cutting of separate walls, no propping and no waiting for icing cement to set. The large, flat front is the point: it leaves room for a door, windows, roof tiles and icicles, which is where the fun of a gingerbread house really is.

A row of house cookies makes a whole village on a long platter, especially if you vary the decorations. Print the cutter at 70 mm for small cottages and 120 mm for a centrepiece house, then scatter Christmas tree and snowflake cookies between them.

Size guide

The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the gingerbread house cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.

Dough and baking tips

Use a firm gingerbread or construction-style dough with little raising agent so the walls stay straight and the roof angle stays sharp. Roll to 5–6 mm and chill before baking. The chimney is the smallest part; bake until the walls are firm and the chimney will be done too.

Decorating ideas

  • Pipe a thick white line along the roof and drag it down in short drips for icicles.
  • Add a door, two windows and roof tiles in white icing, then press small sweets along the roof edge.
  • Flood the windows in yellow so the house looks lit from inside, and pipe a wreath on the door.

Printing this cutter

  • Material: PLA or PETG, ideally a filament sold as suitable for food contact
  • Settings: 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 walls, no supports – the STL is already rim-down
  • Blade: 1.0 mm thick and 15 mm tall by default; use 1.2 mm above 120 mm
  • Print time: roughly 25–40 minutes at the default size
Food safety: 3D printed cutters have small gaps between layers that can trap dough. Use them for short contact with chilled dough, wash by hand in warm (not hot) soapy water, dry them straight away and keep PLA out of the dishwasher. Replace a cutter once it is scratched or stained.
