About this angel cookie cutter

Angel cookie cutter outline: a round head on a short neck, two rounded wings and a wide triangular dress
Angel cookie cutter outline – the cookie comes out in this shape.

Angels are a traditional part of Christmas baking, and this outline keeps the figure simple so the decoration can shine: a round head about 24 mm across, a short neck, two big rounded wings and a wide triangular dress that gives the cookie a flat, stable base. At the default 95 mm it is 95 mm tall and about 87 mm wide.

The wings are wide lobes rather than feathers, so there are no thin points to break off, and the neck is about 10 mm wide – thick enough to hold the head on. The angel works from about 60 mm up; for a tree-topper style cookie, print it at 130–150 mm with a 1.2 mm blade.

The shape lends itself to nativity cookie sets alongside the star and candle templates, and it is also popular for christenings and memorial bakes outside the Christmas season. For a hanging decoration, push a straw through the top of the head before baking and thread a thin ribbon through once the cookie has cooled.

Size guide

The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the angel cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.

Dough and baking tips

Sugar cookie or vanilla shortbread gives a pale base that suits white and gold decorations. Roll to 5–6 mm and chill before baking. The wings are the widest part, so bake on the middle shelf to keep the wing edges from browning before the dress is done.

Decorating ideas

  • Flood the dress and wings in white, then pipe a gold halo just above the head once dry.
  • Run a line of edible pearl sprinkles along the hem and a few on the wings.
  • Brush the wings with pearl or silver lustre for a soft shimmer.

Printing this cutter

  • Material: PLA or PETG, ideally a filament sold as suitable for food contact
  • Settings: 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 walls, no supports – the STL is already rim-down
  • Blade: 1.0 mm thick and 15 mm tall by default; use 1.2 mm above 120 mm
  • Print time: roughly 25–40 minutes at the default size
Food safety: 3D printed cutters have small gaps between layers that can trap dough. Use them for short contact with chilled dough, wash by hand in warm (not hot) soapy water, dry them straight away and keep PLA out of the dishwasher. Replace a cutter once it is scratched or stained.
