About this sleigh cookie cutter

Sleigh cookie cutter outline: Santa’s sleigh seen from the side with a tall rounded back, a low seat, a curled front and a long runner underneath
Sleigh cookie cutter outline – the cookie comes out in this shape.

The sleigh turns a cookie plate into a story – add a few reindeer and presents and Santa is on his way. This outline shows the sleigh from the side: a tall, rounded backrest on the left, a low seat, a front that curls up into a scroll on the right, and a long runner underneath with an upturned tip. At the default 100 mm it is 100 mm long and about 56 mm tall.

The runner is a solid bar about 11 mm deep at the default size, and the body sits directly on it, so there are no thin struts that could break and no enclosed gaps for dough to get stuck in. The backrest is about 19 mm wide. The shape works from about 70 mm up; at 130 mm or more it makes a good centrepiece cookie for a dessert table.

The dip of the seat is the perfect place to pile decorations: pipe a sack of presents, or stand small Gift Box cookies (printed at 40–50 mm) behind the sleigh on the plate. A sleigh with a line of Reindeer cookies in front is a lovely cake-board scene.

Size guide

The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the sleigh cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.

Dough and baking tips

A firm gingerbread or sugar cookie keeps the long runner straight. Roll to 5–6 mm and chill before baking. Long, flat shapes can curl up slightly at the ends in hot ovens; baking on a flat, cold tray lined with baking paper helps the runner stay level.

Decorating ideas

  • Flood the body red and pipe the runner and the scroll in gold or yellow, then add swirls along the side.
  • Pipe a brown sack overflowing with tiny coloured presents in the seat.
  • Write a name along the side of the sleigh for a personalised Christmas Eve cookie.

Printing this cutter

  • Material: PLA or PETG, ideally a filament sold as suitable for food contact
  • Settings: 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 walls, no supports – the STL is already rim-down
  • Blade: 1.0 mm thick and 15 mm tall by default; use 1.2 mm above 120 mm
  • Print time: roughly 25–40 minutes at the default size
Food safety: 3D printed cutters have small gaps between layers that can trap dough. Use them for short contact with chilled dough, wash by hand in warm (not hot) soapy water, dry them straight away and keep PLA out of the dishwasher. Replace a cutter once it is scratched or stained.
