About this polar bear cookie cutter

Polar bear cookie cutter outline: a walking polar bear seen from the side, with a long head, small ear, four thick legs and a short tail
Polar Bear cookie cutter outline – the cookie comes out in this shape.

Polar bears are a winter classic on Christmas cards, and they make a charming cookie that stands out from the usual trees and stars. This outline is a bear walking to the right in side view: a heavy oval body, a long head with a small ear and a rounded snout, four thick legs and a stubby tail. At the default 100 mm the bear is 100 mm long and about 60 mm tall.

The legs are about 15–18 mm wide and the gaps between them about 6 mm at the default size, so dough releases from the cutter and the legs do not snap. That is why the template opens at 100 mm. You can go up to 130 mm for a big bear; below about 80 mm the leg gaps get tight, so raise Smoothing or press the dough out of the gaps with a fingertip.

Because it is a long, low shape, the polar bear works well as a border cookie or walking in a line across a cake. Pair it with Penguin and Snowflake cookies for an arctic plate, or with Snow Globe cookies for a winter scene.

Size guide

The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the polar bear cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.

Dough and baking tips

Polar bears look best white, so use a pale vanilla sugar cookie or shortbread and avoid over-baking – take them out as soon as the edges set. Roll to 5–6 mm and chill the cut cookies. Lift them with a spatula under the body so the legs are not bent.

Decorating ideas

  • Flood the whole bear in white and pipe a small black dot for the eye and one for the nose.
  • Leave the cookie un-iced, brush it with a little milk and dust with icing sugar for a snowy polar bear.
  • Add a red piped scarf around the neck or a tiny Santa hat on the head for a Christmas bear.

Printing this cutter

  • Material: PLA or PETG, ideally a filament sold as suitable for food contact
  • Settings: 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 walls, no supports – the STL is already rim-down
  • Blade: 1.0 mm thick and 15 mm tall by default; use 1.2 mm above 120 mm
  • Print time: roughly 25–40 minutes at the default size
Food safety: 3D printed cutters have small gaps between layers that can trap dough. Use them for short contact with chilled dough, wash by hand in warm (not hot) soapy water, dry them straight away and keep PLA out of the dishwasher. Replace a cutter once it is scratched or stained.
