About this penguin cookie cutter
The penguin is a cute, chunky winter cookie that is easy for anyone to decorate. This outline faces you: a round head about 38 mm across sits on a plump oval body, two curved flippers angle out from the sides, and two wide oval feet stand at the bottom. At the default 90 mm the cookie is 90 mm tall and about 74 mm wide.
Most of the shape is one big rounded area, so it bakes evenly and does not break. The flipper tips are the only pointed parts; they are short and curved and bake well at the default size. The feet are about 23 mm wide each and give the cookie a flat base, so penguins can stand in a row on a plate. The template cuts well from about 60 mm up.
Penguins are a good choice if you want a winter cookie that is not strictly about Christmas – they work just as well for January birthdays and winter school events. Make a penguin family in three sizes, or pair them with the Polar Bear and Snowflake templates.
Size guide
The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the penguin cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.
| Size setting | Cookie (width × height) | Blade | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 mm | 49 × 60 mm | 1.0 mm | Bite-size cookies, cupcake and drink toppers |
| 90 mm | 74 × 90 mm | 1.0 mm | Default – a standard cookie, fits most gift boxes |
| 120 mm | 99 × 120 mm | 1.0 mm | Large gift cookies and centrepieces |
Dough and baking tips
Chocolate sugar cookie dough is ideal: the dark cookie becomes the penguin’s back and you only need to ice the white tummy. Roll to 5–6 mm and chill before baking. The round shape is forgiving, so this is a good cutter for softer doughs too.
Decorating ideas
- Flood a white oval tummy and face on a dark cookie, then add two eyes and a small orange beak.
- Pipe the feet orange and add a red and green scarf around the neck.
- Top the head with a small Santa hat or bobble hat in red icing.
Printing this cutter
