About this kalash cookie cutter

Kalash cookie cutter outline: a round pot with a narrow neck and rim, two mango leaves and a coconut on top
Kalash cookie cutter outline – the cookie comes out in this shape.

The kalash – a pot topped with mango leaves and a coconut – sits at the centre of the Lakshmi puja. This cutter keeps the whole arrangement in one outline: a round pot, a narrow neck and wide rim, two mango leaves curling out to the sides and an oval coconut on top. At the default 90 mm it is about 90 mm tall and 68 mm wide.

The pot is the widest and heaviest part, so it bakes a little slower than the leaves. Roll the dough evenly (5–6 mm) and bake on the middle shelf so the leaf tips do not over-brown. Each leaf ends in a point; at 70 mm and below, raise Smoothing a little so the tips stay attached.

Decorate in layers: flood the pot in yellow and brush it with gold or copper lustre once dry, pipe the leaves in two greens, then pipe a row of red kumkum dots around the belly of the pot. A kalash cookie makes a thoughtful topper for a box of homemade sweets.

Size guide

The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the kalash cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.

Printing this cutter

  • Material: PLA or PETG, ideally a filament sold as suitable for food contact
  • Settings: 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 walls, no supports – the STL is already rim-down
  • Blade: 1.0 mm thick and 15 mm tall by default; use 1.2 mm above 120 mm
  • Print time: roughly 25–40 minutes at the default size
Food safety: 3D printed cutters have small gaps between layers that can trap dough. Use them for short contact with chilled dough, wash by hand in warm (not hot) soapy water, dry them straight away and keep PLA out of the dishwasher. Replace a cutter once it is scratched or stained.
