How to make a gift tag

  1. Type the name (“For Mia”, “To Grandpa”) and, if you like, a short message.
  2. Pick a shape: a classic tag or rounded label with the hole at the end, or a round, heart, star, Christmas tree or bauble tag with a ribbon loop on top.
  3. Set the width. 60–80 mm suits most presents; the text scales to fit and you are warned if it gets too small to print.
  4. Download one STL, the 2-colour ZIP or Colour 3MF for AMS / MMU printers, or a laser SVG / DXF.

Making tags for Christmas? The Christmas gift tag templates open this generator with a tree, star or bauble and “Merry Christmas” already set.

Frequently asked questions

Is the gift tag generator free?

Yes. Make and download as many tags as you like, with no account. The model is built in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

How do I print the text in a second colour?

Raised text: add a filament change (pause) at the layer shown under the preview, where the letters start. With an AMS or MMU, download the 2-colour ZIP or the Colour 3MF and give each part its own filament.

What size should a gift tag be?

60–80 mm wide suits most presents. Keep the name to about 10 letters and the message to about 20 on a 70 mm tag; the generator tells you if the letters would be too small to print (under 3 mm).

Can I cut gift tags on a laser cutter?

Yes. Download the laser SVG or DXF: the outline and ribbon hole are red cut lines, the name and message are blue engraving paths, in millimetres. 3 mm plywood or acrylic works well.

Raised or engraved text?

Raised text is best for two colours. Engraved text prints in one colour and stays flat, so it is easy to paint or fill with a paint pen.

How big is the ribbon hole?

5 mm by default, enough for narrow ribbon, twine or a cord. Set 3–8 mm under Ribbon hole.
