  3. Choose raised or engraved text and the tag width (60–80 mm suits most presents).
  4. Download the STL (or 2-colour files) for your 3D printer, or the SVG / DXF for a laser cutter.
  5. Thread ribbon through the hole or loop and tie it to the present.

Tips for festive tags

Frequently asked questions

Are the Christmas gift tags free?

Yes. Every template opens the free gift tag generator; change the name and message and download an STL, a 2-colour file or a laser SVG / DXF. No account, and nothing you type is uploaded.

How long does a gift tag take to print?

A 70 mm tag at 0.2 mm layers takes about 15–25 minutes, so a whole family’s tags fit on one plate in an evening.

How do I make the name a different colour?

Keep the text Raised and add a filament change at the layer shown under the preview – red tag, white or gold letters looks very Christmassy. AMS / MMU users can download the 2-colour ZIP or Colour 3MF.

Can I laser-cut the tags?

Yes. Download the laser SVG or DXF: red lines cut the outline and ribbon hole, blue paths engrave the name and message. 3 mm birch plywood is a favourite.

When should I make them?

Christmas is on 25 December 2026. Print or cut the tags in early December, with the wrapping, so you can match the names to the presents.

More for Christmas: photo ornament lithophanes and Christmas cookie cutters. Any time of year, the gift tag generator does birthdays, weddings and Diwali too.
