About this christmas bauble cookie cutter
A bauble is really a circle with a cap, and that is what makes it so useful: it gives you the largest flat area of any Christmas shape, ready for whatever pattern you like. The ball is about 67 mm across at the default 85 mm, topped by a small cap and a round hanging loop. The whole cookie is 85 mm tall and 67 mm wide.
The cap is about 18 mm wide and the loop about 11 mm across – both solid, so the cookie stays in one piece. There is nothing thin to break, which makes this a good cutter for children, for decorating parties and for softer doughs that spread a little. It still looks like a bauble at 50 mm.
Baubles make the best edible tree decorations. Push a straw through the loop before baking to make a hole, bake, let the cookies cool fully and hang them with ribbon. A batch decorated in your tree colours ties a whole room together.
Size guide
The Size setting is the cookie’s longest side. This is how big the christmas bauble cookie comes out at a few common sizes – the generator shows the exact numbers for any size from 30 to 200 mm.
| Size setting | Cookie (width × height) | Blade | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 mm | 47 × 60 mm | 1.0 mm | Bite-size cookies, cupcake and drink toppers |
| 85 mm | 67 × 85 mm | 1.0 mm | Default – a standard cookie, fits most gift boxes |
| 120 mm | 95 × 120 mm | 1.0 mm | Large gift cookies and centrepieces |
Dough and baking tips
Almost any rolled dough works, including softer butter cookies, because the shape is so compact. Roll to 5–6 mm. If you want to hang the cookies, make the hole a little bigger than you need – holes shrink as the dough rises – and re-open it with the straw straight after baking while the cookie is still soft.
Decorating ideas
- Flood in one colour, then pipe horizontal bands, zig-zags or dots across the middle like a glass bauble.
- Try wet-on-wet: drop lines of a second colour into the wet base and drag a toothpick up and down for a marbled ornament.
- Paint the cap silver with edible lustre so it looks like a real metal cap.
Printing this cutter
- Material: PLA or PETG, ideally a filament sold as suitable for food contact
- Settings: 0.4 mm nozzle, 0.2 mm layers, 2–3 walls, no supports – the STL is already rim-down
- Blade: 1.0 mm thick and 15 mm tall by default; use 1.2 mm above 120 mm
- Print time: roughly 25–40 minutes at the default size
